Saltash Rotary Club is part of Rotary International a worldwide organisation of men and women who work together to give service to others locally, nationally and internationally. Rotarians commit time to practical hands-on work such as organising events like Youth Speaks, Young Chef, Kids Out,and Santa's sleigh, supporting local initiatives - May Fair, The Christmas Parade and the Saltash Regatta. Fund raising helps to pay for these local good causes plus significant projects in other less developed countries giving clean water, shelter, schooling, replacement limbs and relief from diseases like polio and malaria.
Rotarians in Saltash concentrate on making their work fun and good days out have been had decorating at the Burraton Community Centre, Gardening at the Shado Centre and Stewarding at open days at Trematon Hall and Ince Castle. We take a pride in our town, the Rotary provided and sponsored welcome signs at Carkeel, and the Floral boats at the Bridge slip roads help to provide a welcome to all who visit.
Club Council
The actual structure of Rotary is reflected at every level and starting with the Club there are a number of elected members who form the representative governing body, the Club Council. The Council is elected annually and is responsible for the overall management of the Club. The Club President is elected on an annual basis by the membership and by definition will serve in that capacity for one year. The Hon secretary and Hon treasurer are also elected annually but may be elected to serve for up to five years. In other parts of the Rotary world this body is often known as the Club Board. All Clubs operate under a charter granted by Rotary International, in the case of Saltash this was granted 27th July 1959
Community Services Committee
The Community Services Committee for this Rotary year will continue with the traditions of:-
1. Raising money for the club to donate to good causes through such events as the Christmas Sleigh and Fund raising events.
2. Participating in community activities such as the May Fair and the Regatta.
3. Providing valuable sevices for the community such as support for the Food Bank, the floral boats and gardens and helping the elderly.
The Rotary Club of Saltash have played an important role in the Town's festivities not just with local fund raising for good causes but also recognising outstanding individual and organisational achievements. The club provides a joint award with the Saltash Town Council for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and best youth organisation of the year.
Inner Wheel
International Inner Wheel is most probably the largest women's voluntary service organisation in the world. They hold non-governmental organisation (NGO) status with the United Nations and have representatives in its three centers of Geneva, New York and Vienna and are therefore able to play an important role in today's world.
Since its inception in 1924 Inner Wheel continues to grow as new clubs form in many countries. Currently they have more than 100,000 members in over 101 countries and geographical locations and members enjoy working together making new friends and having fun whilst experiencing the sense of 'belonging' that Club life brings. Visiting members wherever they are in the world is a great joy and the start of lifelong friendships.
